Math & payments

How long does it take to pay off a $5,000 credit card at 22% paying $150 a month?

Stated sample only (not a bank rate): under Nestfigure’s model, $5,000.00 at 22% APR with $150.00 fixed monthly and no new charges pays off in about 4 years 4 months (52 months), with roughly $2,798.05 interest. Open the prefilled calculator or the worked example.

What monthly payment pays off $10,000 in 36 months at 18% APR?

Stated sample only: Nestfigure’s target-months mode estimates about $361.52 per month for $10,000.00 at 18% APR over 36 months. See the 36-month example. For what the statement “payoff in three years” box means, see the CFPB Ask CFPB explanation.

Why doesn’t my payment ever pay off the balance in the calculator?

If the monthly payment is not larger than the monthly interest under Nestfigure’s model, principal does not fall. Raise the payment, lower the APR input to match a lower rate you actually have, or use a shorter target-months plan to see the required payment.

Minimums & statements

Is the minimum-style model the same as my card’s minimum due?

No. Nestfigure’s minimum-style option is a simple educational rule: each month pays the greater of a dollar floor or a percent of the remaining balance. Real issuer minimums use their own formulas and may change. Prefer fixed payment with the amount from your bill when you can.

What does the box on my credit card statement about paying off in three years mean?

The CFPB explains that issuers must show minimum-payoff time and a 36-month payment estimate on statements. You are not required to pay that amount. Nestfigure’s calculator is a separate educational model—not your bill.

Interest

How do credit card companies calculate interest?

See the CFPB Ask page on interest calculation. Nestfigure uses monthly rate = APR÷12 for transparent education; issuers may use daily accrual and other rules.

Product & limits

What does Nestfigure’s credit card payoff calculator not include?

New purchases, fees, balance transfers, promotional APRs, multiple rate buckets, late fees, penalty APR, credit scores, and personalized debt advice. See how the calculator works.

Is Nestfigure a debt counselor or credit card company?

No. Nestfigure is free educational software. Results are mathematical estimates under stated assumptions—not offers, counseling, or legal advice.
