How the percent-off calculator works
Clear discount arithmetic for learning—not a store coupon.
Tool: Percent-off calculator · Embed · All how-we-calculate pages · Questions
Purpose
Convert an original price and a discount percent into savings, sale price, optional tax on the sale price, and quantity totals. Educational only.
Formulas
- Discount per unit = original price × (percent off ÷ 100)
- Sale price per unit = original price − discount per unit
- Tax per unit = sale price × (tax% ÷ 100) when tax is entered
- Total per unit = sale price + tax
- Multiply each line by quantity for cart-style totals
What we intentionally leave out
- Stacked coupons, BOGO, and “extra 10% off sale” sequences beyond one percent
- Live tax rates by ZIP or city
- Store-specific rounding, shipping, or membership pricing
- Manufacturer rebates paid after purchase
